Newcastle’s Opera House

Newcastle has always been known for its live music industry and the incredible Aussie talent that has originated in the region. With huge bands such as Silver Chair and The Screaming Jets heading the live music scene throughout the 80s and 90s, this pub rock era was an iconic time for the local live music industry.

Australian Hotels Association’s Nikki Taylor, who represents Newcastle live music venues and sits on the Labor Party’s live music taskforce, has a long history on the local music scene, and believes there are exciting times ahead for Newcastle’s live music scene.

“There needs to be a narrative that tells the story of music here and encourages people to go out to see live music – and Live at The X is definitely helping the cause!” Nikki said.

Live at the X at the Exchange has been purpose built for amazing live music gigs. The plan is to host local and international acts multiple nights a week. Obviously for the moment, those plans are slightly put on hold, but you’ll still be able to enjoy soloists and duos til late all weekend!

So what makes Live at the X so special?

Let’s start with the front of the room; take a newly refreshed stage, throw in the sound system from the Sydney Opera House (no joke!), add in the biggest privately owned screen in Newcastle, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for an amazing audio visual experience!

Next, you’ve got multiple vantage points to enjoy your favourite live music from; choose to a spot on the ground floor, where you can almost taste the music… or secure a seat on the first floor mezzanine for a birds eye view of the stage (don’t worry, there’s no nosebleed section here, you’ll feel like you’re almost on top of the stage!).

If that’s not enough for you, from any of these areas you’re only a few metres away from the closest bar!
